Keep Your Statement in Check

In today's world, most people are busy with their daily lives and may not take time to review their account and credit card statements. But did you know that your statement is frequently the first place you will spot fraudulent transactions on your accounts? Criminals who steal credit card numbers strike fast. Check your statements soon after you receive them, and make sure there is no unexplained activity.

Online Banking Can Help
Protect Your Information

Services like eStatements and PC Branch can help safeguard your personal information against identity thieves. Without paper statements, criminals can't intercept your mail to steal your financial information. Direct Deposit and Bill Payer can also help thwart identity theft before it happens. You don't have to be concerned that your checks could be lost or stolen.

Report Inaccuracies Immediately
If you detect loss, theft, or unauthorized use of your DCU Visa, Check Card, ATM Card, or Checking Account, report it immediately by calling 508.263.6700 or 800.328.8797. The faster you report it, the faster we can cancel the card and order a replacement card(s) with a new number.

For disputed transaction amounts or problems with merchants, the procedure is different. For these, you should notify us in writing as soon as possible. The fastest way is to log on to PC Branch, select Secure Forms, and fill out the disputed transaction form. There is also information on handling card disputes included with your statement every month.

Another Way to Protect Yourself
Many people don't realize they are victims of identity theft until long after the initial crime occurred. To stop crime as soon as possible, make sure you carefully check your credit reports regularly. Your credit reports are important tools for limiting the amount of damage a thief can cause. You are entitled to one free copy of your credit report each year from each of the nationwide consumer credit-reporting companies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. To view your free report, visit annualcreditreport.com.
