ACH Advantages
An Easy Way to Pay Bills: Pre-Authorized Payments

Your cable, phone, and electric companies never forget to bill you each month, but have you ever forgotten to pay them? Perhaps you remember at the last minute and rush to pay them on time through the mail, raising your stress level each time. If you ever wish you had an assistant to pay your bills for you so you never forget, here's a service that can help: Pre-Authorized Payments (also known as ACH Debit).
One Time to Set Up, Many Months to Relax
Many companies that bill you on a recurring basis allow you to
sign up for Pre-Authorized Payments. Here's how it works:
1. You authorize the company to deduct the amount due on the due date of each billing cycle. You can typically choose how the biller should be paid – from your DCU Checking Account, DCU Visa® Check Card, or DCU Visa Credit Card. If you are signing up for electronic payments with an online service, always make sure the site is secure before entering your account information. In some cases, you may need to provide a voided DCU check and a signature on an authorization form before electronic payments can begin.
2. Once your account is set up for electronic payments, the biller deducts the amount due. You will not need to send money in advance – the amount will show up in PC Branch and on your monthly DCU statement. All you need to do is record the transaction in your DCU check register. If you use your DCU Visa Credit Card, you will need to pay your credit card bill.
3. After the initial set-up, you can sit back and relax – your bills will be paid automatically and you won't have to worry about late charges. If you pay with your check card or credit card, you will need to let your biller know when your card is expiring. Then simply provide the biller with your updated card information to keep the automatic payments on schedule.
Other Ways to Use ACH
ACH can also help you make transfers from an account at another financial institution to your DCU account. You can make recurring deposits into your DCU Checking or Savings Account, or make recurring DCU loan payments. Although DCU does not charge for this service, your other financial institution may charge a fee. Ask about fees before you sign up for this service. Transfers between your DCU accounts are always free.
