Save More with a Quick Start Certificate

As a young person, you may think you don’t get as many deals in life as adults. But if your goal is to save more money, DCU has something just for you – a Quick Start Certificate. This savings opportunity is available just for DCU members under age 23!

what is a certificate?
A certificate is an account that offers a higher dividend rate than a traditional savings account. When you open a certificate, you choose a term – for example, six months or one year – and the money you put in the certificate will grow at a guaranteed rate.

A certificate is different than a traditional savings account because there is a penalty if you take money out of your certificate before the term is up. So it’s best to keep some money in a regular savings account for emergencies and put extra money you may have in a certificate. If you can commit to a few months without withdrawing your funds, a certificate rewards you at the end of the term with more money!

quick start details
DCU members under age 23 can open a Quick Start Certificate with just $100. And here’s where you get an “adult” perk – you’ll earn the Loyalty Checking dividend rate and the same terms as a regular $500 minimum DCU Certificate account. You can check out DCU Certificate rates at dcu.org.

A Quick Start Certificate is a great way to save money toward something big, such as a car, college, or a trip abroad. At the end of the term, you can choose to have the funds transferred to your DCU Savings Account, or you can invest your earnings in a new certificate to keep earning more. No matter which types of savings accounts you use at DCU, your funds are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration.
