Have a Spring Stay-cation

Save money and "travel" to other lands with a good book.

If hearing friends bragging about their exotic spring break trips to Mexico is bumming you out, take heart. Staying home for a spring break doesn't mean you have to be confined to the couch. You can have just as much fun staying home. Make the most of your spring break vacation – no matter your budget – with these wallet-friendly ideas.

Stay-cation at home. What's a "stay-cation?" It's a vacation where you don't need to leave home! Instead of dealing with travel and paying for pricey accommodations, stay in your hometown and explore it instead. Hit your local museums, parks, and shopping centers and see what the place where you already live has to offer.

Make a difference. Hanging out on a beach might be fun, but it won't have the lasting impact on you and others that volunteering does. Use your time off to spend time at an animal shelter or work on a home for Habitat for Humanity. You'll meet new people, have fun, and can change someone's life!

Travel the world. Well, not literally, but you can "travel" the world on your spring break by learning about other cultures. Read a book set in China, try a Russian or Japanese restaurant, or have a French film festival.

Spend time with others. Is your typical school schedule jam packed with studying, athletic practices, and club meetings? Maybe the best thing to do this spring break is to take time to relax. Take a long walk around the park with a friend, or have lunch with your parents. Take advantage of having an open schedule to reconnect with friends
and family.
