Say Shoo to the Flu
Stay Healthy This Winter
As the weather gets cooler and colds and flu become more common, it's important to do everything you can to stay healthy. Save this list
of things you can do to help keep your immune system strong and protect yourself from viruses and cold-weather hazards.
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often. Use hand sanitizer when water isn't available.
- Exercise regularly. It generates endorphins that strengthen your
immune system.
- Get enough sleep. Aim for at least seven hours a night.
- Eat your veggies. Try to eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
- Check your stress levels. Try to keep stress at bay, as long-term stress can suppress your immune system.
- Ask your doctor whether you should take a multivitamin. It may help ensure your body is getting the vitamins it needs.
- Walk carefully on slippery walkways. It helps prevent slips and falls that could result in injuries.
- Bundle up. If it's bitterly cold, wear a warm coat, hat, scarf, and gloves to protect your skin from frostbite.
- Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is important in all weather.
If you do get sick, stay home from work or school, and contact a doctor if your symptoms
become severe.
