Handling an allowance is tough. But a little practice can turn you into an expert.

Watch out for these common allowance problems.
You run out of money before you get your next allowance. If you buy something every time you have a chance, you'll run out of money fast. Instead, try making a list of each item you want and its price. Wait a few days. Then see which items are still important to you. You might be surprised at how many you don't want anymore!

Your friend borrows money and doesn't pay it back. Politely remind your friend that he or she owes you money and that it's important to pay it back. Also be very careful about whom you lend money to.

You have a hard time dividing your money between things to buy now, things to buy in the future and charity. If your allowance comes in an amount that is hard to divide, ask your parent to pay you in smaller bills or coins instead. Get some jars that you can label. Then divide your allowance into them.

Your money gets lost or stolen. You don't want allowance you've saved to disappear. Protect it by keeping it in your savings account.
