Making smart choices for the environment is called "going green."

The choices we make every day can have a big impact on the environment. Global warming, pollution and acid rain are all caused by things people do. We create greenhouse gases with certain activities, like driving cars. Once these gases go into the air, they trap heat in the atmosphere. This is just like the glass panels in a greenhouse.*

Making smart choices for the environment is called “going green.” It’s important so problems don’t get worse. In fact, you can make a big difference right in your own home and school. Here are some ways you can “go green” and help make the planet a better place!

Save electricity – Every time we use electricity, greenhouse gases go into the air. By turning off the computer, the TV and lights when you are done with them, you’ll help out a lot.

Look for the arrows – Recyclable products are marked with three arrows that make a circle on the package. Usually, it takes less energy to make recyclable products.* Ask your mom and dad to buy items with the little arrows.

The three r’s – Reduce, reuse and recycle items as much as possible! The three r’s save space in landfills and help save oil, trees and aluminum.

Spread the word – Tell your family and friends how important – and easy! – it is to go green.
