This past spring, MAFCU put the people helping people philosophy into action with a number of different community involvement projects. In April, MAFCU Board of Directors member Bob Roop participated in the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-miler event. This highly publicized credit union event held in D.C. recently raised $923,000 for Children's Miracle Network with 15,000 runners.

Several members of the Board of Directors as well as MAFCU employees served as judges at a recent MESA (Math, Engineering, Science, Achievement) competition held at the Universities at Shady Grove on April 19, 2010. Elementary, middle and high school students from Montgomery and Anne Arundel Counties competed for trophies in various events. The program enables educationally disadvantaged students to prepare for and graduate from a four-year college or university with a math-based degree in areas such as engineering, the sciences, computer science and mathematics.

Eleven MAFCU employees also volunteered on a Saturday afternoon to help the Rebuilding Together Montgomery County initiative. The employees spent the day painting, installing new grab bars and hand railings, as well as patching dry wall for a very appreciative local Gaithersburg resident.

Keep on the lookout for more information on MAFCU's involvement in the surrounding community in the summer months as we participate in the Rockville Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society, our annual Golf Tournament to benefit CSAAC and the Black Rock Summer Concert program.
