About Wings
Scholarship Winners!

Congratulations to the following winners of the
2008-2009 Scholarship:

These students will each receive a $4,000 scholarship, paid out over two years.

On behalf of Wings Financial, we want to congratulate all applicants for pursuing higher education and striving to succeed in life. Choosing only four recipients for a scholarship is not an easy task as many of our applicants were very qualified. We would also like to thank our scholarship committee for the hours they volunteered to choose these four winners.

Those applicants not chosen for the 2008-2009 scholarship, along with any member pursuing higher education, are invited to apply for the 2009-2010 scholarship. The essay questions and deadline will be announced this fall.

Once again, congratulations Julia, Sarah, Theresa and Anthony!

Spotlight on … Graduation

Harvard University hosted America's first college graduation ceremony in 1642.

Cash continues to edge out the latest gadgets and gizmos as the most popular graduation gift.

Americans purchased an estimated 68 million graduation cards in 2005, according to American Greetings. High school graduates received the most, with an average of 17.5 cards per student.

The three U.S. universities with the highest graduation rates include Harvard University (98%), Princeton University (97%) and Yale University (96%), according to the U.S. News and World Report's America's Best Colleges 2007 study.

The tune that accompanies most graduation ceremonies is Sir Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance," composed in 1901 and first used by Princeton University in 1907.

Most students need a little financial help to afford the rising cost of college. An estimated 65.6% of undergrads will graduate with some debt.
